Important Update: Support for the "Terminal Services Easy Print" driver is under development. RenPrinters will, by default, ignore printers using this driver. You do have the ability to disable this and allow it to rename those printers.

RenPrinters is a service for Windows Server 2000, Server 2003 and Server 2008 that will rename printers installed by Terminal Service clients. Now supporting International operating systems with non-English characters in the printer names. When a TS Client logs in to the server their printer is installed on the system in the following format:

Server 2000 Example: HP LaserJet 5/client/session 10
Server 2003 Example: HP LaserJet 5 (from client) in session 10
Server 2008 Example: HP LaserJet 5 (redirected 10)

Every time a client logs in to the TS the Session number in the printer name will change. This causes a problem in some programs that require the printer name to remain exactly the same.
The RenPrinters service will rename printers when TS Clients connect to the server. Thus, in this example, renaming the above printer example to:

HP LaserJet 5 from Client

PROGRAM CONFIGURATION: RenPrinters can be configured through the "Configure RenPrinters" program found in the RenPrinters program folder. You may modify the:
Timer: You may enter any value in seconds with a minimum value of 10. This will change the length of time RenPrinters will sleep between printer renaming cycles. It is advised that you allow at least 1 second per printer on your server.
Remove Client Name: You may now choose to remove the client name from the printer.
HP Laserjet 5 (from Client) in Session 10
Will be renamed to:
HP Laserjet 5
Use Client Hostname or Username: You may now choose to use the client hostname from the printer or the username attached to the session. Added to version 1.6 and is not intended for use with Server 2008 at this time.
